Wed May 07 01:30:00 UTC 2025: **India Holds Emergency Security Meetings, Prepares for Nationwide Drills Amidst Pakistan Tensions**

New Delhi – Following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, India is on high alert. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi twice in 48 hours, amidst escalating tensions with Pakistan. These meetings follow a series of high-level consultations involving the Defence Minister, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Prime Minister Modi has granted the armed forces full operational freedom to respond to the Pahalgam incident. In response, India has taken several strong diplomatic and strategic countermeasures, including revoking Pakistani visas, halting cultural and trade exchanges, deporting Pakistani citizens, and suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. The Attari-Wagah border crossing has been closed, and Indian airspace is shut to Pakistani commercial aircraft.

Adding to the heightened security posture, India will conduct nationwide mock security drills on Wednesday – the first such exercise since the 1971 war. The drills, ordered by the Home Ministry, aim to bolster civil defence preparedness against potential hostile attacks. Prime Minister Modi vowed to pursue those responsible for the attack, stating that “The terrorists, their handlers, and their backers will be chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth.”
