CUDDALORE, India (May 7, 2025) – NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) for an 810 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. This marks a significant milestone for NLCIL in its expansion into renewable energy.
The project, located within RVUNL’s 2000 MW Pugal solar park, was awarded through a competitive bidding process and falls under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) scheme. Upon completion, it is expected to generate approximately 2 billion units of green electricity annually, offsetting about 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
NLCIL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli hailed the PPA as a pivotal moment, signifying the company’s commitment to clean energy and its goal of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This project significantly boosts NLCIL’s renewable energy capacity under implementation, bringing the company closer to its ambitious target and supporting India’s decarbonization efforts. The company is also exploring further renewable energy projects and lignite-based thermal power projects in Rajasthan.
