Tue May 06 21:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Nationwide Mock Drills in India Amidst Rising Tensions with Pakistan

**NEW DELHI** – India will conduct nationwide mock drills on Wednesday, May 7th, to prepare for potential attacks amidst heightened tensions with Pakistan following a recent terror incident in Pahalgam. The Union Home Ministry ordered the drills, citing “new and complex threats.”

The exercises, involving air raid sirens, civilian defense training, and the testing of communication systems, will assess preparedness across the country. Major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Aurangabad are participating in Maharashtra alone, categorized by sensitivity level. These drills will cover areas ranging from highly sensitive locations like nuclear facilities and ports to major urban centers.

Participants will include civil defense personnel, home guards, NCC and NSS volunteers, and students. The drills will utilize existing Civil Defence infrastructure and are part of a longstanding framework, though their timing is linked to the current geopolitical situation.

The Ministry emphasized that the drills are a precautionary measure and not an indication of imminent conflict. The goal is to improve coordination between authorities and citizens, ensuring a robust response to potential threats. Post-drill assessments will be conducted to identify areas for improvement.
