**Vellore, Tamil Nadu – May 7, 2025** – Police in Ranipet district arrested a lorry driver on Tuesday for illegally mining sand from the dry riverbed of the Palar River. C. Vijayakumar, 34, was apprehended near Cheyyar Main Road while attempting to flee the scene with a lorry full of river sand. Following a short pursuit, he was taken into custody and remanded to the Central Prison in Vellore. The arrest followed a tip-off to authorities.
