Wed May 07 13:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Super Kings Sign Urvil Patel as Injury Replacement

**Chennai, India –** Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who suffered a season-ending ligament tear in his left ankle. Bedi, who was poised to make his IPL debut, sustained the injury just before CSK’s recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Patel, 26, is a highly-rated domestic player who shot to prominence during the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored a blistering 28-ball century against Tripura, the joint-fastest T20 century by an Indian, and finished the tournament with 315 runs in six matches at an average of over 78 and a strike rate nearing 230. His impressive form showcases his aggressive batting style and valuable wicketkeeping skills.

Patel, who was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in IPL 2023 but didn’t feature in a match, joins CSK for his base price of Rs 30 lakh. He is the third injury replacement for CSK this season, following the additions of Ayush Mhatre (replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad) and Dewald Brevis (replacing Gurjapneet Singh).

CSK, currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with only two wins from 11 games, are already eliminated from playoff contention. The team will use the remaining three matches to assess their bench strength and may offer Patel his first IPL appearance.
