Wed May 07 05:40:00 UTC 2025: **UC Berkeley Student Paralyzed After Fraternity Fall, Delayed Medical Care Alleged**
BERKELEY, CA – A 21-year-old UC Berkeley student, Bandna Bhatti, is paralyzed from the waist down after a fall from a fraternity house balcony during a university event in April. Bhatti, a data science major just weeks from graduation, suffered the injuries after falling approximately 12 feet at a Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house party on April 19th.
According to reports, Bhatti fell around 1 p.m. and was left unattended for 15 minutes before being discovered by friends. Instead of immediately calling emergency services, her friends were allegedly told by others at the party to leave with her. Bhatti was taken back to her apartment, and 911 was not contacted until approximately seven hours later.
The delay in receiving medical treatment resulted in a significant worsening of her condition. Bhatti sustained a spinal fracture causing paralysis, a torn dura with spinal fluid leakage, a scapular fracture, and a brain hematoma. She remains hospitalized and faces extensive, ongoing medical care, including physical therapy and rehabilitation.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover Bhatti’s medical expenses. The family expressed their distress over the delayed medical attention.
Both UC Berkeley and the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity have issued statements expressing concern and offering support to Bhatti and her family. A police investigation into the incident is underway.
