**NEW DELHI, May 7, 2025** – India has launched a major military operation codenamed “Operation Sindhur” targeting terrorist camps inside Pakistan. The joint operation, involving the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, is in response to a recent deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgham, Jammu and Kashmir.
Early reports indicate that the operation has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 terrorists in strikes on locations including Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. This is considered to be the largest military action since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019.
The operation involved missile strikes on UN-designated terrorist facilities within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Following the strikes, the Pakistan Army has reportedly engaged in indiscriminate firing along the Line of Control (LOC), resulting in the deaths of three Indian civilians and several injuries. Indian forces are reportedly retaliating.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is scheduled for 11:00 AM today, followed by a Cabinet meeting, to discuss the situation and the ongoing operation. Further details are expected to emerge following these meetings.
