Tue May 06 20:50:48 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Airstrikes in Pakistan and PoK in Retaliation for Terror Attack
**New Delhi, May 7, 2025** – India launched “Operation Sindoor” early this morning, carrying out airstrikes against nine terror infrastructure targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Defence Ministry announced the strikes were in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.
The Ministry stated that the targets were involved in planning and directing attacks against India, and that the response was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” targeting no Pakistani military facilities. The Army’s official X account declared “Justice is Served. Jai Hind!” following the announcement.
The Indian Air Force reportedly struck three locations in Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. Pakistan’s DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the strikes, stating that all Pakistan Air Force planes are airborne and vowing a response. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show explosions in Bahawalpur.
This marks the third such punitive action against Pakistan in the last decade, following the 2016 surgical strikes after the Uri attack and the 2019 Balakot air strike following the Pulwama attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously reiterated that those responsible for the Pahalgam attack would not be spared. Prior to the strikes, he granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to determine the response.
While Pakistan has engaged in significant troop mobilization and exercises along the border since the Pahalgam attack, India’s response involved focused strikes without a large-scale troop deployment. The situation remains tense, with Pakistan’s declaration of a future response leaving the potential for further escalation.
