BENGALURU, May 6, 2025 – Azim Premji, chairman of the Azim Premji Foundation and Wipro Ltd., stressed the importance of viewing health and education as public services, not businesses, during the 27th annual convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). He urged young professionals to prioritize strengthening the public health system, emphasizing the critical role of primary care and preventive services.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil echoed this sentiment, encouraging graduates to work within the government to ensure equitable healthcare access for all. He highlighted the importance of compassion and ethical frameworks in medical practice.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chancellor of RGUHS, advised students to continuously upgrade their knowledge in the face of rapid technological advancements, particularly in AI and robotics.

The convocation ceremony saw 63,982 candidates receive certificates, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. 109 gold medals and cash prizes were also awarded. Honorary doctorate degrees were conferred upon three eminent medical professionals: Hombe Gowda Sharat Chandra, Girish Rao, and G.T. Subhas.
