Wed May 07 14:49:41 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Seeks Traffic Solution During Chithirai Festival

**Madurai, May 7, 2025** – Madurai City Traffic Police are grappling with severe traffic congestion during the ongoing Chithirai festival. The closure of Masi Streets for the daily temple processions is diverting heavy traffic onto Veli Streets, causing significant bottlenecks at Goripalayam, Simmakkal, and Palam Station Road junctions.

To alleviate the situation, authorities are considering temporarily reopening a section of Kulamangalam Road. Construction of a new canal, which had previously closed the road, is now complete. Police are requesting the Corporation to make the road temporarily motorable, allowing vehicles to bypass congested areas. This measure is particularly crucial during the two-day procession of Lord Kallazhagar. The temporary reopening of Kulamangalam Road is expected to significantly ease traffic flow and reduce congestion during the peak festival period.
