**Chennai, May 7, 2025** – Residents of several Chennai neighborhoods are experiencing significant disruptions to water supply, power, and sewage services due to ongoing road digging for a city gas distribution pipeline. The issue, which has reportedly persisted for three months, has prompted complaints to local councilors and social media outcry.
Anna Nagar resident Bala Subramani highlighted damage to water pipelines caused by the pipeline work, urging intervention from city officials. Other residents report difficulties accessing their homes due to unrepaired roads and ongoing disruptions.
Ward 88 councilor G.V. Nagavalli confirmed receiving numerous complaints about damaged sewer networks and water supply interruptions in areas like Padavattamman Koil Main Road. She stated that while initial repairs were made after resident protests, the problem continues, with further damage reported and persistent gas leaks. She also mentioned the disruptive noise associated with the work.
Ward 104 councilor T.V. Shemmozhi echoed these concerns, citing Tuesday’s reports of water supply disruptions in various locations, including damage to Anna Nagar Sixth Avenue and sewer damage in G Block.
Residents are demanding immediate action to resolve the ongoing issues and prevent further damage to civic infrastructure. The Chennai Corporation is yet to issue an official statement addressing the complaints.
