**Sivaganga, India – May 7, 2025** – A daily wage laborer in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, is receiving assistance from local officials after termites destroyed her life savings. Muthukaruppi, 30, had stored ₹500 notes intended for her daughter’s ear-piercing ceremony in a buried earthen pot. She discovered the damage on Tuesday, leaving her distraught.

After appealing to District Collector Asha Ajith, revenue officials and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officers inspected the damaged currency. While the RBI confirmed the notes were beyond redemption due to the extent of the damage, they have pledged to investigate further with their Chennai office to explore potential assistance for Muthukaruppi. District officials have assured her of their support in this matter.
