**Bengaluru, May 7, 2025** – Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met with Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss crucial infrastructure projects for Bengaluru. Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, advocated for significant central funding for various initiatives aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and improving urban infrastructure.

Key requests to Gadkari included funding for:

* **Upgrading the Bengaluru-Kanakapura road to six lanes.**
* **Completing a 7km road linking the Kaggalipura toll plaza.**
* **Providing compensation for land acquired for the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), a project stalled since 2009.**
* **A ₹30,000 crore, 60km tunnel road project connecting major national highways, estimated to cost ₹500 crore per km.** This project aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion.
* **Funding for elevated corridors in Bengaluru.**
* **Exploring the feasibility of a “ropeway bus” system as a sustainable transport solution.**

Discussions with Khattar focused on:

* **Securing central approval for 44.65 km of Bengaluru Metro Rail’s Phase 3 expansion, with plans for an additional 37 km under development.**
* **Improving waste management in the city.**

Shivakumar emphasized the urgency of these projects and their importance in improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure and quality of life. The meetings included senior state officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
