Wed May 07 12:11:43 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court Panel Confirms Cash Found at Judge’s Residence**

NEW DELHI – A Supreme Court-appointed panel has confirmed allegations of a large cash discovery at the residence of Allahabad High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, sources revealed today. The three-member panel, which included judges from the Punjab & Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka High Courts, investigated a fire incident at Justice Varma’s Delhi residence in March. Their report, submitted to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on May 3rd, concludes that evidence supports claims of a significant amount of cash found in the storeroom.

Justice Varma, who was a Delhi High Court judge at the time of the incident, consistently denied the allegations. However, the panel’s findings, based on interviews with over 50 individuals including Delhi Police and Fire Service officials, contradict his statements.

Chief Justice Khanna has reportedly urged Justice Varma to resign and has forwarded the report to him, requesting a response. While the Chief Justice is set to retire on May 13th, sources indicate he intends to see this matter to its conclusion and has discussed the report with senior members of the Supreme Court collegium.

The controversy began after a news report on the cash discovery. Subsequent actions included a preliminary inquiry, the removal of Justice Varma’s judicial duties in the Delhi High Court, and his transfer to the Allahabad High Court without judicial responsibilities. The Supreme Court collegium recommended his repatriation to Allahabad on March 24th, and on March 28th, directed that he be given no further judicial assignments. The investigation’s findings now cast a serious shadow over Justice Varma’s career.
