Tue May 06 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Raptadu Tense as Arrests Loom Over Former MLA Thoopudurti Prakash Reddy
**Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh:** Political tensions are simmering in Raptadu, Anantapur district, following the arrest of several associates of former MLA Thoopudurti Prakash Reddy. The arrests stem from a series of incidents that began with the Ramgiri MPTC elections last month.
The rivalry between the Thoopudurti brothers (who represent the YSRCP) and the Paritala family (TDP) has long been a defining feature of Raptadu’s political landscape. While Paritala Sunitha, a prominent TDP leader, had previously defeated Prakash Reddy three times, the YSRCP’s victory in 2019 saw the Thoopudurti brothers consolidating their local power. However, Prakash Reddy’s significant defeat in the 2024 elections and subsequent controversial remarks have reignited the conflict.
The current unrest began with accusations of TDP kidnapping its own MPTC candidates to manipulate the Ramgiri MPTC elections. Counter-accusations flew between the YSRCP and TDP, leading to further escalation. This culminated in an altercation involving Prakash Reddy and police at the Penugonda MRO office, where he allegedly used abusive language.
The situation worsened following the murder of Lingamayya in Papireddypalli, Ramgiri mandal. The visit of former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy to console the bereaved family and subsequent damage to his helicopter further fueled political tensions. Accusations are flying between the YSRCP and TDP regarding responsibility for the helicopter incident.
Police have now arrested approximately 11 individuals linked to Prakash Reddy, charging them in connection with the helicopter incident. While granted bail, Prakash Reddy himself remains at large, reportedly posting a video of himself in Hyderabad on social media. This has led to increased pressure on the police to arrest him, with special teams dispatched to various locations. He has since filed a bail petition in the High Court.
The ongoing arrests and Prakash Reddy’s actions have heightened political tensions in Raptadu, leaving the region on edge as the court considers the bail petition and the potential for further arrests. The outcome will significantly impact the political dynamics of the area in the lead-up to future elections.
