**Kathmandu, Nepal – May 6, 2025** – An American climber, 39-year-old Alexander Pancoe from Chicago, died on Mount Makalu in Nepal over the weekend. Pancoe suffered a cardiac arrest while descending from Camp Three to Camp Two on Sunday, May 4th, according to Nepal’s Mountaineering Department. Efforts are underway to recover his body and bring it to Kathmandu. The incident occurred during Nepal’s mountaineering season, which runs from March to May. Hundreds of climbers attempt ascents during this period before the monsoon season makes climbing too hazardous.
