Wed May 07 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Cross-Border Anti-Terror Operation; Opposition Parties Express Support

**NEW DELHI** – India carried out a major cross-border counter-terrorism operation codenamed “Operation Sindhur” late Tuesday night, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, a coordinated effort involving the Army, Air Force, and Navy, aimed at dismantling infrastructure used to plan and direct attacks against India. The government described the operation as targeted, calibrated, and non-provocative.

Pakistan has claimed that six locations were targeted and eight people were killed in the Indian strikes. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the operation an act of war, asserting Pakistan’s right to respond decisively.

The operation has been met with widespread praise across India. Rahul Gandhi, a prominent opposition leader from the Indian National Congress, tweeted, “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge echoed this sentiment, stating that India maintains a firm national policy against all forms of terrorism emanating from Pakistan and PoK and expressing pride in the armed forces’ resolute action. Kharge emphasized the Congress party’s consistent support for decisive action against cross-border terrorism.

The Congress’s support for the operation underscores a broad national consensus on the need to counter terrorism emanating from across the border, despite political differences. The operation comes in the wake of heightened tensions following a recent terrorist attack (presumably referring to Pulwama).
