Wed May 07 06:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Indian Army Launches Cross-Border Strikes After Pulwama-Style Attack
**NEW DELHI** – The Indian Army confirmed it conducted surgical strikes against nine terrorist launchpads across the Pakistan border and in Pakistan-administered Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday. The operation, codenamed “Operation Sindur,” comes in response to a recent terrorist attack in Pulwama, Kashmir, on April 22nd, which killed 26 people. Following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh vowed strong retaliation.
The announcement was made at a press conference by two female officers: Lieutenant Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
Lt. Col. Qureshi, a veteran officer from Gujarat with a background in biochemistry and a family history of military service, has a distinguished career including leading a 40-soldier Indian contingent in a multinational exercise in Pune in 2016 – a first for a female officer. She also served six years with the United Nations peacekeeping force, notably in Congo in 2006.
Wing Commander Singh, an Indian Air Force helicopter pilot with over 2500 flight hours, has a remarkable record of service in challenging conditions across Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India, including participating in crucial rescue missions such as one in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020. Her experience includes piloting Chetak and Cheetah helicopters.
The Indian Army’s actions highlight the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pulwama attack. The details surrounding the targets and the extent of damage inflicted during “Operation Sindur” remain undisclosed.
