Wed May 07 06:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches ‘Operation Sindhur,’ Strikes Jaish-e-Mohammed Targets, Killing 10 of Masood Azhar’s Family
**NEW DELHI** – In a significant escalation, India launched “Operation Sindhur,” a series of targeted airstrikes against nine Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in the early hours of May 6-7, 2025. The operation, according to Indian officials, was a direct response to the April 22 Pulwama attack.
According to the Indian government, the strikes successfully neutralized numerous terrorists. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the action was “focused, calibrated, and non-escalatory.” Col. Sofia Quraishi further detailed the operation, which took place between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM on May 6-7. She emphasized that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure, not military installations or civilians.
A significant revelation emerged when JeM chief Masood Azhar confirmed that ten members of his family, along with four close associates, were killed in the strikes. Azhar expressed regret, stating he wished he had been killed instead. A JeM statement detailed the victims, including Azhar’s elder sister’s family, and mentioned several other casualties and injuries among relatives. Most of the casualties were women and children, according to the statement. The deceased were buried on May 7.
The Indian Ministry of Defence stated that the operation targeted locations used for planning and directing terrorist attacks against India. The government asserted that the strikes were a decisive response to the heinous Pulwama attack, aiming to bring justice to the victims and their families.
