Tue May 06 22:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Strikes Terrorist Targets in Pakistan and PoK

**NEW DELHI** – India launched a cross-border counter-terrorism operation codenamed “Operation Sindoor” targeting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, involving precise strikes by the Indian Army and Air Force, comes in response to a recent deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The strikes, utilizing a range of precision weapons including loitering munitions, were carried out based on intelligence inputs. Indian officials emphasized that the operation was focused, calibrated, and non-escalatory, targeting only terrorist infrastructure and avoiding any civilian or military installations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly monitored the operation throughout the night.

The Indian military confirmed the successful completion of all nine strikes, asserting that justice has been served. The operation follows a terrorist attack in Pulwama approximately two weeks prior, in which 26 civilians were killed.

Pakistan’s military confirmed that Indian missile strikes hit three locations within Pakistani territory: Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and the Ahmad East area of Bahawalpur. According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the strikes resulted in one child fatality and injuries to an adult male and female.

While India maintained its actions were targeted at terrorist infrastructure, Pakistan condemned the attacks. The incident raises concerns about further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
