**NEW DELHI** – In a major retaliatory operation following the Pulwama-like attack in Pahalgham, the Indian armed forces launched a series of devastating air strikes targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) late Tuesday night. Codenamed “Operation Sindur,” the coordinated operation involved the Indian Air Force (IAF), Army, and Navy.
The IAF employed a range of advanced fighter jets, including Mirage-2000 and Sukhoi-30MKI, along with Rafale jets equipped with Scalp cruise missiles and Hammer missiles. Sources indicate that the strikes targeted terrorist camps in Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, known strongholds of terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The IAF also utilized HAROP drones and Spice 2000 missiles in the operation.
Reports suggest that India used cruise missiles and drones to target the camps, remaining within its own airspace. BrahMos supersonic missiles, with a range of 400-600 km, were also reportedly used to destroy JeM command centers and weapon depots in Bahawalpur and Muzaffarabad. Hammer missiles, with a range of 20-70 km, were employed to target camps in PoK. The Indian Navy played a significant role in the operation, providing support from the sea.
Specific targets included the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur, which was reportedly destroyed using bunker-buster bombs. Further targets in PoK included the Sawai Nala camp, Bilal camp, Kotli Gulpur, Kotli Abbas camp, and Bhimber Barnala camp, and in Pakistan, Sarjal camp, Mahmoona Joiya camp, and Muridke. Unconfirmed reports suggest that 14 members of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar’s family were killed in the strikes. Pakistani media reported sightings of four Rafale jets patrolling across the Line of Control (LoC).
While the Ministry of Defence has yet to officially confirm all details, the scale and precision of the operation signal a significant escalation in India’s response to cross-border terrorism. Images circulating on social media appear to show significant damage to the targeted locations.
