Tue May 06 20:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Major Overnight Operation Targeting Terrorist Camps in Pakistan

**ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI** – In a significant escalation of tensions, India launched a large-scale covert operation, codenamed “Operation Sindur,” targeting multiple terrorist camps within Pakistan overnight. The operation, confirmed by Pakistan, reportedly hit nine locations including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot. Indian sources claim four sites were within Pakistan and five in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The primary targets were facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), groups responsible for numerous deadly attacks on India over the past three decades. The Indian military employed precision weapons in the strikes, which involved coordinated efforts across all three branches of the armed forces.

A key target was the Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah complex in Bahawalpur, considered the headquarters of JeM. This large complex, also known as the Usman-o-Ali campus, houses a madrasa, mosque, swimming pool, stables, and gym, and operates under the Al-Rahmat Trust, a suspected JeM front. The complex, spanning approximately 18 acres, allegedly served as a major terrorist training center.

The operation comes in response to decades of cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Notable past attacks attributed to these groups include the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the 2016 Pathankot and Uri attacks, among others. India has previously conducted surgical strikes in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, but this operation marks a more direct and audacious assault on territory deep within Pakistan. The targeting of Bahawalpur, a high-security zone with proximity to a Pakistani army corps headquarters and a nuclear facility, underscores the precision of Indian intelligence and military capabilities.

Pakistan has yet to release an official death toll or the extent of the damage. The audacious raid has significantly heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals. The incident will likely face intense international scrutiny.
