Tue May 06 20:50:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches ‘Operation Sindur’: Airstrikes Target Terrorist Camps in Pakistan and PoK
**Srinagar, May 7** – In a swift and decisive response to a recent terrorist attack in Pulwama, India launched “Operation Sindur” late Tuesday night, carrying out airstrikes on nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, reportedly involving all three branches of the Indian armed forces, targeted camps believed to be linked to terrorist groups, including the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Following the airstrikes, Srinagar airport was temporarily closed to civilian traffic as a precautionary measure. Air India cancelled several flights to Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, and Punjab until 12 PM on Wednesday, citing the evolving security situation. Indigo also issued an advisory to its passengers, urging them to check flight status before heading to the airport, and announced cancellations and delays to several flights. Reports indicate Pakistan has also cancelled several flights in response to the airstrikes.
The Indian Ministry of Defence confirmed the operation in a statement, describing the military action as “focused, calibrated, and non-escalatory”. Sources indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the operation closely. The Indian government also informed several key international partners, including the US, Russia, UK, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, about the action taken.
Pakistan condemned the airstrikes as an act of war, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stating that his country has the right to respond forcefully. Pakistani military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry confirmed the strikes in several areas, including Bahawalpur.
The airstrikes come two weeks after a terrorist attack in Pulwama, raising concerns of further escalation between the two nations. While the immediate aftermath is marked by heightened tensions and flight disruptions, the long-term implications of “Operation Sindur” remain to be seen. The Indian military has reportedly placed all air defense units along the Pakistan border on high alert.
