Tue May 06 11:54:57 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Woman and Son Arrested for Dog Bite Incident
**COIMBATORE, INDIA (May 6, 2025)** – A 50-year-old woman, K. Sowmiya, and her 23-year-old son, K. Surya, have been arrested in Coimbatore for allegedly allowing their dog to bite a five-year-old girl. The incident occurred on May 3rd when the child was playing near the family’s tenement. Sowmiya reportedly scolded the child, and subsequently, she and her sons unleashed their dogs, resulting in one biting the girl.
The girl’s father, L. Ponvel, took his daughter to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment and filed a police complaint. Sowmiya has a prior conviction for a similar offense in 2023.
The accused have been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Madras City Police Act, relating to negligent conduct with respect to animals, causing hurt by dangerous means, and public nuisance. Police are still searching for Sowmiya’s younger son, Santharam Prakash.
Two of the family’s four dogs have been taken to a dog care facility by Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation officials, with the remaining two dogs slated for relocation.
