Tue May 06 14:13:50 UTC 2025: ## Two Drown in Sea Near Thoothukudi
**THOOTHUKUDI, May 6, 2025** – A tragic drowning incident occurred Monday evening near Mottai Gopuram beach in Thoothukudi, claiming the lives of a 15-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man.
Police reports indicate that Antony Vijayan, 40, took seven children to the beach in his auto-rickshaw. While bathing in the sea, Kaleeswari, 15, drowned. Vijayan attempted a rescue but was also overcome by the strong tide.
Kaleeswari’s body washed ashore at Vellaipatti beach, approximately 5 km from the incident site. Vijayan’s body was recovered the following day between Thaalamuthu Nagar and Vellaipatti.
The Tharuvaikulam Coastal Security Group police have registered a case and sent both bodies to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
