Tue May 06 02:58:18 UTC 2025: ## Trump Administration Offers $1,000 to Illegal Immigrants for Voluntary Return

**Washington, D.C. – May 6, 2025** – The Trump administration announced a new initiative Monday offering illegal immigrants $1,000 plus travel assistance to voluntarily return to their home countries. This program, utilizing a repurposed app formerly used for scheduling entry into the U.S., aims to accelerate the administration’s mass deportation agenda.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that immigrants using the CBP Home app to arrange their departure will be deprioritized for detention and removal. Secretary Kristi Noem touted self-deportation as the “best, safest and most cost-effective way” for undocumented immigrants to leave the U.S. The DHS confirmed it has already facilitated the return of at least one migrant.

While the administration seeks increased funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), this initiative, coupled with televised threats and social media campaigns highlighting immigration enforcement, encourages self-deportation. The administration maintains that this approach allows migrants to potentially return to the U.S. in the future.

However, immigration advocates express concern. Aaron Reichlen-Melnick of the American Immigration Council warns that leaving the country without fighting deportation cases in court could have negative consequences, potentially leading to automatic deportation orders and the abandonment of asylum applications. He also questions the legality and funding source of the payments, suggesting they are a necessary measure due to the administration’s failure to meet its deportation targets.

The CBP Home app, formerly known as CBP One under the Biden administration, has reportedly been used by “thousands” of migrants for self-deportation. The initiative raises questions regarding the potential ramifications for those in deportation proceedings who choose to leave the country under this program.
