Tue May 06 08:11:05 UTC 2025: ## Woman on Trial for Mushroom-Laced Wellington Murders Rebuffed Help Serving Deadly Meal, Survivor Testifies

**Morwell, Victoria** – The trial of Erin Patterson, 50, accused of murdering three people with poisonous mushroom-laced beef wellingtons, entered its sixth day with compelling testimony from the sole surviving guest. Ian Wilkinson, 71, told the Latrobe Valley Law Courts that Patterson appeared reluctant to allow guests to assist in serving the meal, rejecting offers of help from his wife, Heather, and Gail Patterson.

Wilkinson, a church pastor, described the July 29, 2023, lunch at Patterson’s home as a seemingly ordinary gathering. He testified that both Heather and Gail had offered to help plate the food, but Patterson insisted on doing it herself. Following the meal, Wilkinson and his wife experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea, initially dismissing it as gastroenteritis. Heather Wilkinson and Gail and Don Patterson later died.

Patterson, who has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, claims the incident was a tragic accident. Her lawyers argue she unintentionally served the toxic mushrooms. However, Wilkinson’s testimony regarding Patterson’s unusual behavior during the meal preparation adds another layer to the complex case.

Wilkinson characterized his relationship with Patterson as friendly but not close, describing her as an “ordinary person.” The trial, expected to last six weeks, continues to unfold, captivating Australia and drawing international attention.
