**Los Angeles, CA** – Shia LaBeouf is set to star in the upcoming crime thriller *God of the Rodeo*, Deadline has learned exclusively. The film, written and directed by Rosalind Ross, is based on the true story of Angola Prison in 1967 Louisiana, and will depict the brutal reality of the prison’s first-ever inmate rodeo.

LaBeouf will play Buckkey, a hardened inmate serving a life sentence who sees a glimmer of hope in this unlikely competition. However, the rodeo is revealed to be a gladiatorial spectacle designed to entertain the public and fulfill the warden’s twisted sense of power.

*God of the Rodeo* is produced by Giannina Scott through her Cara Films banner, alongside Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss through Scott Free Films. The film marks a significant project for Ross, whose previous work includes the Mark Wahlberg-starring *Father Stu*.

This casting announcement comes on the heels of LaBeouf’s recent appearances in *Salvable*, *Henry Johnson*, and Francis Ford Coppola’s *Megalopolis*. The actor is currently represented by John Crosby Management and attorney Matthew Saver.

Production details for *God of the Rodeo* are yet to be announced.
