**Bengaluru, May 6, 2025** – The Karnataka State government has issued a new set of guidelines for Cubbon Park, Bengaluru’s largest green space, aiming to balance public access with environmental preservation. The order, effective immediately, details permitted activities, restrictions, and penalties for violations.
Key regulations include a limit on gatherings to 20 people without prior permission from the Deputy Director of Cubbon Park. While events like walkathons, awareness programs, and health camps are allowed, commercial activities such as pre-wedding photoshoots and filming are prohibited. Photography for personal use is permitted. Food consumption remains banned to combat littering. Activities like cycling and skating are allowed, but classes are not. Balloons, kites, and frisbees are also prohibited.
A designated 15-acre area has been set aside for non-commercial activities like reading, yoga, and meditation. The park will be open for walking between 5:30 am to 9:00 am and 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
Violators face a ₹500 fine, with stricter penalties for repeat offenses. While welcoming the regulations, members of the Cubbon Park Conservation Committee urge the Horticulture Department to enhance signage and security to ensure effective implementation. Similar guidelines are expected for Lalbagh Botanical Garden within two weeks. The government hopes these measures will protect Cubbon Park while ensuring its continued use by the public.
