**RAMESWARAM, INDIA – May 6, 2025** – A 61-year-old Sri Lankan refugee, Thangaiya Selvaraj, was arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday afternoon. Selvaraj, who had fled to India during Sri Lanka’s 2022 economic crisis, was apprehended near Neduntheevu while attempting to return to his home in Mannar, Sri Lanka, in a fibre boat borrowed from his employer. He had been residing in a Mandapam rehabilitation centre and working as a laborer in Rameswaram. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Sri Lankan refugees seeking to return home.
