Tue May 06 11:30:00 UTC 2025: **CBI Court to Deliver Verdict in 14-Year-Old OMC Mining Case**
BELLARY, MAY 5, 2025 – After a 14-year-long trial, a CBI court is set to deliver its verdict on Tuesday, May 6, in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case. The case involves allegations of illegal iron ore mining in the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border region, implicating several high-profile individuals.
The case was filed in December 2009 by then-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, alleging illegal mining by OMC in the Anantapur and Bellary districts. The then-government issued GO 71, banning mining operations by OMC.
The CBI named B.V. Srinivas Reddy, former MD of OMC, as the primary accused (A-1), and Gali Janardhan Reddy as A-2. Other accused include former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, former mining director Valmiki Rajagopal, former IAS officer Kripanand, and Gali Janardhan Reddy’s personal secretary M. Ali Khan.
The CBI’s first chargesheet, filed in 2011, alleges the accused caused a loss of ₹884.13 crore to the public exchequer. The court has examined 219 witnesses and over 3,400 documents during the trial. The verdict is highly anticipated, concluding a protracted legal battle.
