Tue May 06 12:07:43 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad to Conduct Nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill

**HYDERABAD, India (May 6, 2025)** – Hyderabad will participate in a nationwide civil defence mock drill, codenamed ‘Operation Abhyaas’, on Wednesday, May 7th, from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The drill, encompassing the city within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), is part of a larger government initiative to assess preparedness for emergencies.

Twelve city services, including police, fire, rescue, medical, and municipal departments, will participate. A city-wide siren alert will simulate an air raid, prompting citizens to seek immediate shelter, turn off utilities, and remain indoors. Authorities urge citizens to follow only official updates and avoid spreading unverified information.

The drill, mandated under the Civil Defence Act of 1968, aims to test inter-departmental coordination and public awareness. Hyderabad is among 244 districts designated as vulnerable by the Indian government.

Following the initial alert, the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) will simulate impact reports at four locations, triggering emergency responses. Police will secure areas and manage crowds, while fire and rescue services will conduct simulated operations. Medical teams will practice triage and casualty evacuation, and transport services will move residents to designated shelters. Local bodies will provide relief at these shelters.

While a city-wide blackout is part of the drill’s protocol, it will not be implemented due to the drill’s timing before sunset. However, procedures like covering windows, dimming vehicle lights and camouflaging critical infrastructure will be explained and practiced.

The drill will conclude at 4:30 PM with another round of sirens. Authorities request public cooperation throughout the exercise.
