Tue May 06 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Mets End Losing Streak, Extend Dominance Over Cardinals with 9-3 Victory

**ST. LOUIS, MO** – The New York Mets snapped their four-game losing streak and extended their winning streak against the St. Louis Cardinals to nine games with a convincing 9-3 victory Friday night. Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo each blasted home runs, while Francisco Alvarez contributed three singles and three RBIs in the offensive onslaught.

The Mets’ victory marked their first win against Cardinals pitcher Sonny Gray (3-1), who had previously been undefeated against them. Gray struggled, surrendering five runs (four earned), nine hits, and three walks in just 4 1/3 innings. Alonso’s two-run homer in the fifth, his eighth of the season, put the Mets ahead for good. Nimmo added a solo shot in the seventh.

Mets pitcher Clay Holmes (4-1) earned the win, despite being hit on the ankle by a comebacker in the second inning. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs and eight hits. The Mets offense exploded for 17 hits, their second-highest total of the season. Masyn Winn led the Cardinals’ offense with three hits and an RBI.

The Mets’ dominance over the Cardinals continues a trend; they previously swept a four-game series in St. Louis last month. This current nine-game winning streak surpasses their previous best against the Cardinals, an eight-game run in 1986. Alonso’s performance against St. Louis is particularly noteworthy; he now has 13 home runs in 135 at-bats against the team.

The series continues Saturday with Tylor Megill (3-2, 1.74 ERA) pitching for the Mets against Erick Fedde (1-3, 4.68) for the Cardinals.
