Tue May 06 12:44:31 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Minister Blames BJP for Communal Tension, Defends Anti-Communal Task Force
**Bengaluru, May 6, 2025** – Karnataka’s Rural Development and IT/BT Minister, Priyank Kharge, launched a scathing attack on the BJP Tuesday, accusing the opposition party of fueling communal polarization in the state, particularly in coastal districts. His remarks followed the recent announcement of a proposed anti-communal task force by Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
Mr. Kharge directly linked the BJP to alleged revenge killings in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, claiming that young people from poor and backward communities are victims of the party’s communal politics. The task force, he asserted, is necessary to counter these forces and maintain peace.
The announcement of the task force, mirroring the state’s anti-naxal force, came in the wake of the May 1st murder of Suhas Shetty, a former Bajrang Dal activist and accused in two murder cases. Eight individuals have been arrested in connection with Shetty’s death.
The BJP has criticized the task force, alleging it is a political maneuver by the Congress government. However, Mr. Kharge rejected this, stating the government will not tolerate any actions that disrupt the state’s peace and harmony. The debate highlights the escalating tensions and differing perspectives on the handling of communal issues in Karnataka.
