**Alappuzha, Kerala, May 6, 2025** – A Kerala-based company, Extraweave, has once again made headlines, providing the striking blue carpet for this year’s Met Gala in New York City. The carpet, hand-painted in New York but woven in Cherthala, Kerala, using Madagascar sisal fibre, featured prominently as A-list celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Kim Kardashian, and Zendaya ascended the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This marks the third consecutive year Extraweave has supplied the carpet for the prestigious event. The company shipped 57 rolls, totaling 6,840 square meters, the result of nearly three months of work by 480 employees. Extraweave’s founder and CEO, Sivan Santhosh, expressed immense pride in their contribution, highlighting the company’s commitment to quality craftsmanship. The company previously supplied rugs to the White House in 2012.
Kerala Industries Minister P. Rajeeve congratulated Extraweave’s management and workers on their achievement. The stunning carpet, a testament to Kerala’s artisan skills, added a touch of Indian artistry to fashion’s biggest night.
