**Dubai, May 5, 2025** – Iran has reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing nuclear dispute with the United States, despite the postponement of a fourth round of talks scheduled for Rome on May 3rd. The postponement, attributed to logistical reasons, has not deterred Tehran, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
Mr. Baghaei stated that Iran remains flexible regarding the timing of future talks and is awaiting further details from Oman, the mediating party. He emphasized that Iran’s willingness to engage in dialogue is contingent on the U.S. negotiating team’s behavior and consistency, citing contradictory statements from U.S. officials as unhelpful. He reiterated Iran’s right to enrich uranium domestically.
This announcement follows the imposition of fresh U.S. sanctions against Iran and recent statements by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging Iran to import enriched uranium rather than enriching it domestically. President Trump has previously threatened military action if an agreement cannot be reached.
While Iran maintains its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only, Mr. Baghaei suggested many issues would be resolved if the U.S. genuinely adhered to its demand that Iran not possess nuclear weapons. Talks with Britain, France, and Germany, also postponed from May 2nd, are expected to be rescheduled. The UN nuclear watchdog has described the current stage of U.S.-Iran talks as “very crucial.”
