**Bengaluru, India (May 6, 2025)** – With the monsoon season approaching, Bengaluru is taking proactive measures to mitigate potential flooding and rain-related disasters. Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath, also the BBMP administrator, chaired a multi-departmental meeting outlining a comprehensive plan to address the city’s 209 flood-prone areas.
Of these, 166 areas have already undergone mitigation efforts. The remaining 43 are under immediate scrutiny, with zonal commissioners tasked with personally inspecting and implementing solutions. Departments like BMRCL, K-RIDE, and KPTCL have been instructed to expedite pre-monsoon works.
Addressing water stagnation on key roads, BBMP engineers are cleaning drains based on traffic police reports. A total of 647 potholes have been identified by the traffic police, with 323 already filled and another 239 under repair.
To improve disaster response, nine permanent control rooms (eight zonal and one central) and 63 sub-divisional centers will operate around the clock. Real-time problem-solving will be facilitated through WhatsApp groups involving various city departments. The city’s 175 km of primary stormwater drains are also undergoing scheduled maintenance.
The preparedness plan emphasizes inter-departmental coordination, with direct communication lines established between zonal commissioners and the city’s 20 fire stations and one SDRF unit. A comprehensive contact list of fire personnel is also being maintained. The proactive approach aims to ensure the safety and well-being of Bengaluru’s citizens during the upcoming monsoon season.
