Hyderabad, India – The Nampally CBI court has delivered its final verdict in the long-running Obulapuram mining case. After a 15-year investigation, five individuals were found guilty, while two were acquitted.
Key accused Gali Janardhan Reddy, B.V. Srinivas Reddy, Mehfuz Ali Khan, and V.D. Rajagopal (former Director of Mines) were convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment each, along with a fine of ₹10,000. The Obulapuram Mining Company was also fined ₹200,000; failure to pay will result in an additional year of imprisonment.
V.D. Rajagopal received an additional four-year sentence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, totaling 11 years imprisonment.
Former Mines Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and former Industries Secretary K.R. Kripanand were acquitted.
