Sun May 04 12:39:35 UTC 2025: ## Police Increase Surveillance After Elderly Couple Murdered Near Sivagiri

**COIMBATORE, INDIA (May 4, 2025)** – Following the murder of an elderly couple at their farmhouse near Sivagiri in Erode district, Tamil Nadu police have significantly increased surveillance in rural areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts. The incident, described as a murder-for-gain, has drawn strong criticism of the ruling DMK party from opposition groups.

Over 300 police officers conducted a comprehensive survey in Coimbatore district on Saturday, documenting the location of farmhouses, CCTV cameras, and guard dogs. Increased patrols are now in place around farmhouses in several areas, including Sulthanpet, Gomangalam, Negamam, and Vadakkipalayam.

Coimbatore Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan urged residents to install security measures like CCTV cameras and improved lighting. He also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity and utilize the ‘Kaaval Udhavi’ app for emergency alerts and reporting. Further awareness campaigns are planned across the district.

Tiruppur police have also heightened patrols near farmhouses, following a similar incident in November 2024, where an elderly couple and their son were murdered in Semalaikavundampalayam. Suspects in that case remain at large. Police patrols along the PAP canal embankments have also been strengthened.
