Sat May 03 10:35:24 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Test-Fires Missile Amid Heightened Tensions with India

**ISLAMABAD, Pakistan –** Amid escalating tensions with India following a deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir, Pakistan conducted a successful test launch of its Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 450 kilometers. The government announced the Saturday test, stating it was designed to ensure troop readiness and validate the missile’s advanced capabilities.

The launch comes as Pakistan claims to possess credible intelligence suggesting India plans imminent military action in response to the April 22nd attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people. India accuses Pakistan of supporting the attack, a claim Pakistan vehemently denies.

Tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals have soared since the incident, marked by diplomatic expulsions, border closures, and exchanges of gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC). India has even suspended its participation in the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, has ordered heightened military vigilance.

While Pakistan asserts the missile test was routine, the timing amidst heightened war rhetoric has raised concerns of potential military escalation. Both countries have issued strong statements, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi granting his military “full operational freedom” to respond. The situation remains extremely volatile, with fears growing for the safety and security of civilians in the region.
