Sun May 04 02:48:48 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Escalate Tensions Following Deadly Terror Attack

**New Delhi, May 4, 2025** – India and Pakistan have significantly escalated their ongoing conflict following the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. In a dramatic escalation, India imposed a complete ban on all imports from Pakistan, regardless of origin, and barred Pakistani ships from entering Indian ports. Simultaneously, India also suspended mail and parcel exchanges with Pakistan via both air and land routes. These actions follow previous punitive measures announced last week, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the downgrading of diplomatic ties.

Responding swiftly, Pakistan banned Indian flag carriers from accessing its ports and reciprocated by preventing Pakistani ships from docking in Indian ports. A statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs cited the need to safeguard its maritime sovereignty, economic interests, and national security.

The heightened tensions come amidst an intensified manhunt for the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. Indian authorities have identified four suspects, including two Pakistani nationals. A tip-off led Sri Lankan police to search a flight from Chennai, though the search yielded no arrests.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Pakistan announced a successful test launch of its Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface missile with a 450 km range. Indian officials viewed this as a provocative act. The escalating situation raises serious concerns about regional stability and the potential for further conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations.
