**Chennai, May 4, 2025** – A high-level meeting between Union Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam secured a collaborative effort to ensure the state’s power supply during peak summer and monsoon seasons. The meeting, held on Friday, May 2nd, focused on addressing Tamil Nadu’s projected power demand and guaranteeing sufficient lignite and coal availability.
Discussions included strategies to manage peak loads and expedite several key projects related to NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), including land acquisition for lignite mines, the development of M-Sand from overburden in Neyveli mines, the launch of Neyveli airport, and the formation of a joint venture between Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited and NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL).
The collaborative approach is anticipated to alleviate supply-side constraints and guarantee reliable, affordable, and sustainable power for Tamil Nadu. The meeting was attended by key officials from NLCIL, the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Limited, and the Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited.
