Sat May 03 21:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Longshot Neoequos Aims for Kentucky Derby Glory

**LOUISVILLE, KY –** Neoequos, a longshot contender with a $22,000 price tag, is set to compete in the 151st Kentucky Derby on May 3rd at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old colt, currently ranked 17th in the Kentucky Derby points standings with 40 points, will enter the race after a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Florida Derby.

Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. and ridden by Luis Saez, Neoequos boasts an interesting pedigree. Sired by Neolithic and out of the mare Bold Birdie, he’s owned by a syndicate including C2 Racing Stable (who finished 16th in the 2022 Derby with White Abarrio), Ian Parsard, Shining Stables, and Stefania Farms.

Neoequos’ racing career has been exclusively at Gulfstream Park, consistently running at or near the front. However, his sire, Neolithic, struggled with distance, raising questions about his ability to handle the Derby’s 1 1/4-mile length. Trainer Joseph acknowledges this uncertainty, stating, “The distance is still a question mark, but he keeps running well enough and fast enough to keep going and try.”

The Kentucky Derby post-position draw takes place on April 26th, with the race itself scheduled for 6:57 p.m. ET on May 3rd. The race will be broadcast on NBC, Peacock, and other NBCU platforms, and can also be streamed on FuboTV. Despite the odds, Neoequos and his connections are hoping for a Cinderella story in the Run for the Roses.
