**New Delhi, May 4, 2025** – The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025, India’s sole undergraduate medical entrance exam, was held today across the country under unprecedented security. Over 22.7 lakh aspiring doctors sat for the three-hour exam, a slight decrease from last year’s 24 lakh candidates. The exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), saw a significant increase in examination centers—5,453 this year compared to 4,750 in 2024—in an effort to prevent any recurrence of last year’s paper leak scandal.
This year’s exam saw a return to the pre-COVID format, with 180 compulsory questions (45 each in Physics and Chemistry, and 90 in Biology). The NTA has emphasized a strict dress code, prohibiting electronic devices, and other prohibited items. Candidates were required to carry their admit card, two passport-size photographs, a postcard-size photograph, and a valid government ID.
Authorities implemented stringent security measures, including three layers of monitoring at the district, state, and national levels. Question papers were transported under full police protection, and exam centers were equipped with CCTV cameras. Prohibitory orders were even imposed around exam centers in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Cyber police units are actively monitoring social media for any attempts to illegally share question papers or offer assistance, and several arrests have already been made in connection with such attempts.
The NTA issued several warnings against rumors and misleading information circulating online, taking action against various online platforms spreading such claims. Following last year’s malpractice incidents, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has already suspended 26 MBBS students and cancelled the admission of 14 others involved in unfair practices during the 2024 NEET-UG exam.
Despite the increased security and the return to a more challenging exam format, the NTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process for all aspiring medical students. The results of the NEET UG 2025 exam are eagerly awaited by lakhs of candidates across the nation.
