Sun May 04 10:20:49 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Faces Humanitarian Catastrophe: Thousands of Children on Brink of Starvation

**GAZA CITY** – A dire humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Gaza, with the Gaza Government Media Office (GMO) warning that over 3,500 children under the age of five are facing imminent death from starvation. The GMO statement, released Sunday, paints a grim picture of the situation two months into Israel’s ongoing blockade, which has severely restricted the flow of essential aid and supplies into the territory.

The GMO claims that approximately 70,000 children are currently hospitalized due to severe malnutrition, and an estimated 290,000 children are teetering on the brink of starvation. Over 1.1 million children daily lack sufficient nutrition for survival, according to the GMO, which accuses Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war amidst international silence.

At least 57 Palestinians have already died from starvation, sparking global condemnation but failing to elicit a significant response from Israel to ease the blockade. The blockade, coupled with skyrocketing food prices, has pushed the 2.3 million residents of Gaza towards widespread famine. Aid agencies report that supplies to treat and prevent malnutrition are critically low.

The UN estimates that over 80 percent of Gaza’s population relies on humanitarian assistance. Aid groups and human rights organizations have joined the GMO in condemning Israel’s actions, while Israel maintains that the blockade is necessary to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages.

The conflict has already claimed the lives of at least 52,495 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, a figure the GMO has revised upwards to over 61,700, including those missing under rubble. Over 118,366 more have been wounded. The escalating humanitarian crisis underscores the urgent need for international intervention to alleviate the suffering of the Gazan population, particularly its vulnerable children.
