Sun May 04 08:33:07 UTC 2025: ## Missile Attack Halts Air Traffic at Ben Gurion Airport; Israel Blames Iran

**Tel Aviv, Israel –** A ballistic missile launched from Yemen struck the perimeter of Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s busiest airport, Sunday morning, temporarily halting air traffic and triggering nationwide sirens. The attack, which the Israeli military confirmed its defense systems failed to intercept despite multiple attempts, caused damage to road infrastructure and a vehicle. Three people sustained minor injuries.

Videos circulating online show the missile impacting a connecting road within the airport perimeter, scattering debris. While the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have claimed responsibility for previous attacks on Israeli territory, have yet to comment on this incident, their ongoing missile and drone attacks against Israel are framed as opposition to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the Israeli blockade. This blockade, according to reports, has led to the starvation deaths of over 50 Palestinians since March 2nd.

The attack prompted the immediate closure of all airport entrances, suspension of train services to the airport, and redirection of several flights. Sirens blared across central Israel, sending millions into shelters, according to local media.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz blamed Iran for the attack, stating, “It is Iran that is firing ballistic missiles at the state of Israel, and it must bear responsibility.” He suggested a strong response from Tehran was likely.

Opposition leader Yair Golan criticized the government’s handling of the situation, highlighting the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the plight of Israeli captives held there, the high cost of living, and the strain on reservists. He emphasized the need to secure the release of captives and end the war.

The attack comes amidst ongoing US and UK military airstrikes in Yemen. Al Masirah TV, a Houthi-run media outlet, reported numerous US air raids in the early hours of Sunday, including strikes on al-Jawf and Marib governorates. Casualty information remains unclear, following a pattern of limited transparency surrounding recent US strikes, including one on a migrant detention center that resulted in numerous deaths. An investigation into the Ben Gurion Airport attack is underway.
