Sat May 03 19:24:04 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Metro’s Poonamallee-Porur Line Faces Connectivity Issue: Shuttle Services Proposed

**Chennai, May 4, 2025** – The upcoming launch of the Chennai Metro Rail’s 9.1 km Poonamallee-Porur line (corridor 4) in seven months is raising concerns among residents due to limited connectivity. While the line itself will connect Poonamallee to Porur, residents argue that its usefulness will be significantly reduced without convenient onward travel to other parts of the city’s metro network. The delay in completing the Porur-Kodambakkam stretch, hampered by double-decker corridor construction, means commuters will have to change lines at Vadapalani to reach destinations beyond Porur.

To address this issue, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is considering temporary shuttle services between Porur and Vadapalani. Residents, however, advocate for frequent, integrated shuttle services, perhaps extending to Alandur, and seamless ticketing systems allowing the use of existing cards like the Singara Chennai card on these shuttles. They argue that without such solutions, ridership on the Poonamallee-Porur line will remain low as most commuters need to travel beyond Porur.

CMRL officials acknowledge the anticipated low patronage between Poonamallee and Porur alone, confirming the exploration of shuttle options until the Porur-Kodambakkam section is completed. The situation highlights the importance of integrated public transportation planning and the need for comprehensive solutions to ensure the effectiveness of new infrastructure projects.
