**Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir—** A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable, Munir Ahmed, has been dismissed from service for concealing his marriage to a Pakistani national and allowing her to remain in India after her visa expired. The CRPF stated that his actions violated service conduct rules and jeopardized national security.
Ahmed, a member of the 41st Battalion, married Minal Khan via video call in May 2023. Khan entered India on a tourist visa that expired in March 2024, yet she remained in the country. Following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam that prompted the revocation of many Pakistani visas, Khan faced deportation. She received a last-minute reprieve from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, granting her a 10-day stay in India.
The CRPF maintains that Ahmed failed to obtain proper authorization for his marriage before proceeding. While Ahmed claims he received clearance from CRPF headquarters on April 30, 2023, nearly a month before the marriage, the force disputes this. He further alleges he submitted the necessary documentation, including marriage photographs and certificates, to his superiors.
Ahmed, who joined the CRPF in 2017, intends to challenge his dismissal in court. He insists he followed proper procedure and received the necessary approvals. The case highlights the complexities surrounding cross-border marriages and their implications for national security within the context of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
