**MUZAFFARNAGAR, Uttar Pradesh, May 4, 2025** – A protest erupted in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday after farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was heckled at a meeting addressing the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Hundreds of farmers gathered, expressing solidarity with Tikait and condemning the incident.
The protest transcended party lines, with MPs and MLAs from various parties, including the Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal (an ally of the BJP), and Congress, publicly supporting Tikait. Accusations were leveled against the hecklers, with some calling the incident “a terror attack” in itself. They alleged Tikait’s “links with pro-Khalistani elements,” citing his adoption of a turban, opposition to the abrogation of Article 370, and questioning of the Pahalgam attack. The faction claimed the protesters were fellow Jats, the same community as Tikait. The conflicting statements and accusations highlight the complex political and social dynamics at play in the incident.
