Sat May 03 19:40:14 UTC 2025: ## Yemen’s PM Resigns Amidst Triple Missile Attack on Israel and Escalating US Air Campaign
**SANAA, YEMEN/JERUSALEM, ISRAEL** – Yemen is facing a deepening crisis as Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak resigned Saturday amid political turmoil, coinciding with a wave of escalating violence. This comes as Houthi rebels launched three missiles at Israel within 24 hours, prompting air raid sirens and a renewed intensification of the US air campaign in Yemen.
The Israeli military confirmed intercepting a missile Saturday, the third such attack in a single day. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed responsibility, framing the attacks as retaliation for Israeli operations in Gaza. These attacks, along with increased targeting of Red Sea shipping routes, signal a growing Houthi campaign of solidarity with Palestinians.
Simultaneously, the US significantly escalated its air strikes in Yemen. Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported two US air raids on Kamaran Island and the as-Salif district in Hodeidah on Saturday, following seven strikes on the same port city the previous day. A US strike last month on Ras Isa oil port in as-Salif resulted in at least 80 deaths and 150 injuries, highlighting the rising civilian casualty count. Reports suggest the civilian death toll from US strikes in March reached between 27 and 55, with April’s numbers expected to be higher. Houthi sources allege a single strike on Monday killed at least 68 African migrants.
The resignation of Prime Minister Mubarak, attributed to a power struggle with Presidential Council leader Rashad al-Alimi, further destabilizes the already fragile Yemeni government. Finance Minister Salem Saleh bin Braik has been swiftly appointed as his replacement.
The international community largely does not recognize the Houthi rebels, despite their control over much of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. The ongoing conflict, coupled with the escalating US intervention and Houthi attacks on Israel, paints a grim picture for the future of Yemen.
